Save with the Web Clipper

Install Aside's Web Clipper from the signed-in Web app, then save a desktop browser page and confirm it appears in the Web workspace.

The Web Clipper is a browser bookmark. Install it once on a desktop browser, then click it on the page you want to keep.

This is a Web-only path. It does not replace the iOS share sheet or the Android share action.

Before you start

You need:

  • a desktop or laptop browser
  • to be signed in to Aside Web
  • a visible bookmarks bar, or a way to add a bookmark

There is no unsigned install. Mobile Safari and Android browsers are the wrong place to look for this Clipper.

Shortest path

  1. Open Aside Web Clipper while signed in.
  2. Copy the bookmark code. The copied text starts with javascript: and points back to your Aside app.
  3. Create a browser bookmark named + Aside, and paste that code into the URL field.
  4. Open the page you want to keep, then click + Aside in the bookmarks bar.
  5. In the small Aside window, confirm and save.
  6. Open Aside Web and find the item in your list.

Install is copy and paste. There is no drag-to-bookmarks control. If you want a short excerpt, select text on the page before clicking + Aside.

What you should see

The Clipper page only shows installable code after you sign in. After you paste it as a bookmark, clicking + Aside opens a small Aside window on top of the page.

That window shows the page URL and title so you can confirm the save. After you save, the window closes. Then the same page should appear in the Web workspace list, with a title you can recognize.

Saving the same URL again merges into the item you already have. It does not silently create a second copy.

If it fails

The usual failure is that the bookmark does nothing, or no small window appears.

  • Confirm the bookmark URL still starts with javascript:. Some browsers strip that prefix when you paste.
  • Allow pop-up windows for Aside. If the browser blocks the window, nothing was saved.
  • Stay signed in. The Clipper page will not give you installable code while you are signed out, and the save window will ask you to sign in before it can write the item.

Do not turn the bookmark code into a page link. Paste it only into the bookmark URL field.

Platform limits

  • Desktop Web only. The Clipper will not appear inside the iOS or Android apps.
  • The code you copy is a bookmarklet: it must keep the javascript: prefix, and the browser may block the save window.
  • Use this path for pages that are already in the desktop browser. Content that still lives in another mobile app should be saved with iOS share, not the Clipper.
  • Confirm the item in the Web workspace. A missing item on iOS is not proof that the Clipper save failed.
