ASIDE / Tools

Tools in Aside.

This is the scenario directory. Each card is one situation: when you would use it, what you actually keep in Aside, and what the page shows.

Use cases

Quick capture tool

A shop you just passed, or a thought that will not wait. Use this when you want it written down now, before you have a link to save.

Aside keeps your words in one record. Add a photo and it stays in that same record.

The page plays a short film: tap + on Home, write the thought, add a photo, then save and look at the record again.

Save webpages with notes

You read something useful and already know why it matters. Use this when that reason should still be there the next time you open it.

Aside keeps the saved page, and your own note if you write one. The note is optional. Aside does not write it for you.

The page plays a short film: share an article from Safari, add one thought, save, and see your words on Home with the source still beside them.

Voice note tool

Use this while walking, after a meeting, or on a trip, when saying it is easier than typing.

Aside keeps the recording as audio, in the same record as a sentence or a photo if you add one. Aside does not transcribe the recording into text.

This page has no demo film. It explains how the recording sits with text or a photo, and shows a still of a saved voice note.

Collection organizer

A thought, a photo, and something you saved are still apart. Use this when you want them under a subject you name, without sorting everything else first.

Aside keeps a collection you name, holding the photos, pages, and notes you choose. It does not file them for you.

The page plays a short film: start a blank collection, give it a name, and choose a few items you already saved.

Item reminder tool

You saved something you want to think about, and now is not the time. Use this to choose when you come back to that one item.

Aside keeps the item and the time you set: tomorrow, next week, or a time of your own. The alert is an iOS local notification, and only if notifications are allowed.

The page plays a short film: open a saved record, set the time, then tap the notification and return to the same thought and photo.

Travel guide organizer

A lane you turned into, a guide you saved, a line you wrote on the way. Use this when the pieces of a trip should stay together.

Aside keeps the photo, the guide, and your note in a collection you name. You can link one item to another. It does not write the trip for you.

The page plays a short film of looking back through a collection: open the photo, read the note, then follow a related item to the route.

Travel shopping list tool

Before you walk into a shop, or while you are still deciding what to buy. Use this for one city or one street, not for the whole trip.

Aside keeps what you list to buy, store pages or addresses, price notes, and photos, in a collection you name. You choose every item. Aside does not fill the list.

This page has no demo film. It explains the shopping list and shows a still of a collection, such as what to buy at a drugstore.

Recipe organizer

A recipe you might cook soon, or a step you already know you would change. Use this when those should stay together.

Aside keeps the recipe link or a photo, and your note on the step, in a collection you name. It does not rewrite the recipe or scale the ingredients.

This page has no demo film. It explains how links, photos, and notes sit in a collection, and shows a still of one.

Research organizer

A question is still open, and a saved page only helps if you remember what you wanted from it. Use this to pick the thread up later.

Aside keeps your question, the sources you save, and the note you write. You put them in one collection and link items yourself. It does not produce the conclusion.

The page plays a short film. The example asks how a product demo can feel more human: a writing guide sits beside the question, and your note keeps the next idea in view.

Design reference organizer

When you are changing your own work and you see a layout, a page, or a screenshot you want to keep.

Aside keeps the reference you saved, plus the note you wrote about what you want to try on your own work, in a collection you name. You choose every item. It does not design the portfolio, does not build the site, does not rank references, and does not organize them for you.

The page plays a short film. A reference and an idea go into a collection named Portfolio refresh.

Organizer for your next piece

Use this when the next piece is not finished. The sources are already saved, and what you meant to use them for is still in your own words.

Aside keeps the sources you saved, the angle you wrote, and an idea you added later, in one collection you name. The center is a piece you are about to write, not an open question. You write the outline. Aside does not write the draft, does not build the outline for you, and does not pull material in from other apps by itself.

The page plays a short film. Sources, your angle, and a new idea stay in a collection named My next post.

Keep the photo and how it felt

You saw or tried something, and you will want that feeling when you choose later.

Aside keeps the photo and the sentence you wrote on the same Quick Capture record. That sentence is the Quick Capture body, not the Note on a saved webpage. Aside does not judge which one is better, and does not judge which one is more comfortable. It does not pull in the camera roll.

The page plays a short film. A photo and the sentence “So comfortable. Perfect for my reading corner.” stay on the same Quick Capture record.

A collector at heart. A builder by nature.
