Choose a platform

Web, iOS, and Android all run Aside, but they are not the same app. Pick the one that matches how you save.

Aside is available on Web, iOS, and Android. They share one idea — a personal shelf for links, notes, photos, and files — but they do not share the same screens, capture path, or current limits.

Pick the platform that matches where the content appears. Do not expect the other two to look or behave the same.

Before you start

You only need one working entry:

  • a desktop or laptop browser for Web
  • an iPhone or iPad for iOS
  • an Android phone or tablet for Android

You do not need to install every app before saving the first item.

Web

Use Web when you are at a computer and want a larger workspace to review items, add notes, use tags, and put items into collections.

  1. Open Aside Web.
  2. Sign in if the workspace asks you to.
  3. Use the workspace to browse and organize what is already on your shelf.
  4. To save a web page from the browser, install the Web Clipper after you sign in.

Web does not have a system share sheet. It is the wrong place to capture something that currently lives in another mobile app.

iOS

Use iOS when you want to save from the apps where you already find things — Safari, Photos, Messages, and others.

  1. Download Aside for iOS.
  2. Open the app that contains the item.
  3. Use the system share sheet and choose Aside.
  4. Open Aside and confirm the item is in your list.

If Aside does not appear in the share sheet, scroll the app list, tap More, and enable Aside.

The iOS app can also browse and organize items, but it is not a copy of the Web workspace.

Android

Use Android when you want the same capture job on an Android device: save from another app through the system share action.

  1. Download Aside for Android.
  2. Open the app that contains the item.
  3. Use the Android share action and choose Aside.
  4. Open Aside and confirm the item is in your list.

Android is not a reskin of iOS or Web. Labels, layout, and later screens can differ. Stay on the Android share path rather than hunting for an iOS control.

What is different today

  • Capture from other apps: iOS and Android. Web cannot do this.
  • Save a page from the desktop browser: Web Clipper, after you sign in. iOS and Android do not use the Clipper.
  • Larger review and organize workspace: Web.
  • Same product, same screens: none of the three. Treat them as related apps, not one identical app in three skins.

Making a collection public is not a current Start step on any platform. Keep items private first.

If the wrong app is open

Typical stalls:

  • waiting for a share sheet on Web
  • looking for the Clipper on iOS or Android
  • assuming an Android screen will match an iOS screenshot

Switch to the platform that matches the job, then save one recognizable item.
