Install the Web Clipper

Install Aside's Web Clipper from the Web app, then use it to save pages from your desktop browser. It is not the iOS or Android capture path.

Aside Web Clipper is a browser bookmark. Install it once in your desktop bookmarks bar, then click it on any page you want to save.

This is a Web-only path. iOS and Android save from other apps through system share. Do not look for the Clipper there.

1. Open the Clipper page while signed in

Open Aside Web Clipper while signed in to Aside Web.

If you are not signed in, the page will ask you to sign in before showing the bookmark code. There is no unsigned install.

2. Copy the bookmark code

On the Clipper page, use the copy button to copy the code. The code starts with javascript: and points back to your Aside app.

Install is copy and paste. There is no drag-to-bookmarks widget.

3. Add it to your bookmarks bar

Create a new browser bookmark:

  • Name: + Aside
  • URL: paste the copied code

If your bookmarks bar is hidden, show it first. On many desktop browsers the shortcut is Cmd+Shift+B on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows.

4. Save a page

Open any page you want to keep, then click + Aside in your bookmarks bar. A small Aside window opens so you can confirm and save the page.

Tip: select text on the page before clicking + Aside if you want to capture a short excerpt with the saved page.

What the Clipper is for

Use the Clipper for web pages you want to return to later, compare with other sources, or place into a collection. It is the desktop capture path. It is not required for mobile sharing, and it will not appear inside the iOS or Android apps.

If nothing happens

  • Sign in first. The Clipper page will not show installable code while you are signed out.
  • Confirm the bookmark URL still starts with javascript:. Some browsers strip that prefix when you paste.
  • Stay on desktop Web. The Clipper does not replace the iOS share sheet or the Android share action.
